HP 3048A software for PC-based RMB emulators (tested with HTBasic)
------------------------------------------------------------------

Set up HTBasic as follows:

Options->Run Environment:

	- BDAT LSB first
	- CREATE BASIC for Windows
	- Enable long filenames
	- Enable MSI
	- Enable DIM
	- Save ASCII
	- Enable long CAT dates

Options->Change MSI:

	- Set to wherever you stored the zipfile contents

Tools->Device Setup:

	- Add GPIBNI support

File menu

	- 'Change MSI On Open' should be selected

Hints:

- The various noise-test protocols all seem to run OK, and all 3048A
hardware options appear to work (I have tested it with essentially
every supported instrument.)

- You can generate CALDATALO and CALDATAHI files as usual, by
hitting F9 -> F1 -> F3 -> F1/F2 from the main menu.  You may be able
to import your existing CALDATA file(s) but I haven't looked into that.
The ones included with the zipfile may or may not be usable with
your hardware, and (in any event) will not be optimal from an accuracy
standpoint.

- During CALDATA generation, there are a lot of missing carriage
returns that screw up the text formatting. Adjusting the width of the
emulator window may help.

- Some of the 11848A internal hardware tests may fail or end
prematurely (tests 04 through 08). Test 04 will normally fail if run
on newer 11848As (see the service note at the very end of the 11848A 3rd. ed.
service manual on www.hparchive.com), and there are a few timing discrepancies
in the emulated code that may (or may not) cause problems with the others.

- Mouse support is problematic, and can actually lock up the RMB
interpreter; just use the function keys to navigate the menus.

- If you encounter GPIB connectivity problems, it may be helpful to
increase your NI GPIB interface's Bus Timing property to 2 us.

- Also for optimum GPIB reliability, try to avoid running with powered-down
instrumentation on the 3048A bus segment. Either disconnect the unused
gear completely, or turn it on.
